New York City, New York USA

Seattle bred flutist, pianist and composer Anne Drummond moved to New York in 1999 to study at the Manhattan School of Music, earning a degree in piano performance. Drummond now works primarily as a flutist and composer, touted by Jazz Times magazine as “flute sensation” and steadily works on writing commissions for chamber ensembles.

Drummond’s performances around the world include the Vienna Opera House, Zankel Hall, Kennedy Center, Disney Hall, Massey Hall, BMW Welt, and many other symphony spaces and jazz festivals around the US & Europe. She first garnered international attention in 2001, recording and touring with jazz greats Kenny Barron and Stefon Harris. Over the span of 8 years, she recorded four Blue Note records with Harris, and three records with Barron.

In 2003, she was a featured soloist with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, and has also worked with vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, bassist Avishai Cohen, organist Dr. Lonnie Smith, Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson and Indie-rock’s Bright Eyes. Drummond’s debut recording, Like Water, was released in 2009, receiving considerable radio play on NPR, Sirius and in most local radio stations around the U.S. All About Jazz magazine remarked, “Drummond is a sylph whose lines burrow into the center of the band, embedding her in the middle of each light, ephemeral samba, and become one with the group sound.”

Endorsed by Powell and Sonare flutes, Drummond enjoys her work giving master classes to aspiring flutists. Over the past six years, she served as adjunct faculty in composition at the New School in New York City, coached ensembles at Manhattan School of Music, adjudicated the Washington State Solo and Ensemble competition, and was a featured clinician at the JIMS Salzburg music workshop. As a composer, she undertakes commissions for chamber groups of varying instrumentation; she has also created original pieces for T-mobile national TV commercial spots and independent film shorts.

"Powell's craftsmanship and brilliance stand alone. It's the only flute I have ever wanted."
