Jane Lenoir, flutist, has a career which spans many diverse genres of music. Born in Washington, DC to a family of professional musicians, she grew up in Tampa, Florida, and left when she was 15 on a scholarship to the Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan. She later graduated from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music. She has participated as a soloist, chamber musician and principal flutist in many festivals, including the Music in the Mountains Festival in Nevada City, California, the Desert Music Festival in Carefree, Arizona, the Berkshire Music Center, the New College Festival in Sarasota, Florida. Her teachers include Robert Willoughby, Thomas Nyfenger, Julius Baker and Jean Pierre Rampal.
Her experience as a soloist and performer includes performances with the San Francisco Chamber Music Society, the Mills College Group for New Music, the Paul Dresher Ensemble, George Coates Performance Works, The San Francisco Conservatory Contemporary Music Ensemble, the Berkeley Contemporary Chamber Players, the LA Museum’s Monday Evening Concerts, UC Santa Cruz Contemporary Music Festival, the Seattle Group for New Music. She has performed many world premieres of compositions, and can be heard also on Mode Records and Vienna Artists.
She has resided in the San Francisco Bay Area since the 70’s, and she currently lives in Marin County with her two sons, Jamie and Max Rosengarden. Her involvement in jazz dates back to the 70’s, when she first started hanging out in clubs and sitting in, working with such well-known Bay Area jazz artists as the late Al Plank, Hal Stein, Calvin Keys, Harold Jones, Vince Lateano, Art Lande, Andy Narrell, John Wiitala and others.
