| Flutist Sandy Moore Wacha performs as Principal Flute with the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra and is also a member of the Symphony Wind Quintet.
As a member of the National Flute Association, Sandy has performed with the Professional Flute Choir at several National Flute Conventions and with the Odyssey Trio in Columbus, Ohio and Kansas City, Mo.
Flute, Cello and Harp make up the Odyssey Trio. The trio has recorded five CDs: Winter White, Always Autumn, Sensations of Summer, Holly & Ivy and Spring. In addition, Sandra has two solo CDs. The first CD, “Through Time,” is a compilation of pre-recorded pieces and the second CD for flute and piano is titled “Silver.”
Sandy holds a BME degree from Drake University and an MM degree from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Her primary teachers include Dr. John Bailey, Dr. Nathen Jones and Jean Yungclas. Further study was completed with Gerald Rudy at San Diego State University and Roger Stevens in Los Angeles.
As a member of the International Flute Orchestra, Sandy has performed concerts in many European countries. The IFO is under the direction of Nancy Clew and Dr. John Bailey. Sandy maintains a private teaching studio in Des Moines and attracts talented students from the central Iowa area.
